Synopsis
The play takes place in a park in the afternoon on Valentine’s Day. The girl tells the audience a story while she is waiting for the boy she grew up with to arrive. They were neighbours from birth and soon they became lovers in their childhood. As their love matured their understanding of each other deepened. But unfortunately as they grew older it became obvious that the girl was getting taller than the boy. When they are 20, the boy is 12 inches shorter than the girl. This is a problem that causes them to suffer because of the strange way the whole world looks at them. This situation exposes the sentimental nature of their relationship and their immaturity as they try to avoid people but are unable to resolve the problem. When the boy comes to her on this particular Valentine's Day, he brings some flowers while her Valentine’s present to him is a pair of shoes with large heals to bring him up to her height. Together they try to put the shoes on, trying to avoid attracting people’s attention. However, the way they try putting the shoes on, makes the audience break out laughing, causing the boy to panic. He becomes scared and runs away. The girl is now left alone on stage holding the pair of shoes with the rose. She yells at the boy fleeing into the distance: “Come back!". Will he come back?
