Synopsis

The experience takes place in a hotel room. The play starts just after the young couple have had sex. They talk about love, family, the past, and the future. As the boy had asked her to, she has brought all the letters written to her by her former lovers. It is a big collection of letters from more than thirty lovers. She gives the parcel to him, and although she is not happy about what she had to do, she believes it could help him to understand something about life. When the boy sees it is such a big parcel, he gets angry and frustrated, and as he kicks it, the letters are scattered everywhere in the room. From this point on the story unfolds based on what has been written in the letters with the couple responding to the letters. The boy reads the letters: they boast of her sex-life and love, even her body. What the letters show is that some people have taught her about sex and love, whilst some have learned sex- love from her. The letters are disturbing to the boy and he finds that there is nothing new for him to do with her. Everything has been said and done. He asks her how he could surprise her with his “pure love”. The boy gets frustrated as he can’t think what to do and the girl gets frustrated too because he can’t understand how things happen in life. (The implication at this point is when the woman is more educated about love and sex than the 'masculine man' who wants to teach her everything about that, the man becomes frustrated.) However, the girl who in some ways thinks as a feminist, but is not practical, says in the end that she will never want anyone for a relationship as these always end up broken. Then the boy asks if everyone thinks so, how can civilization continue? The girl asks if this “bloody civilization” needs necessarily to be carried on.
